About The “Coaching James” series

By Mack | October 1, 2006

I started using YouTube to distribute my videos about a couple of months ago. One of the viewers (James, Username:”MagicSooty”) responded to my backhandspring video and commented that “that actually really helped me.” And so the conversation started through email.

I actually coached someone through email, online. And he produced results as you will see and read. He sent me a video but actually was not necessary. Everything, my coaching, was through text (email). I posted the email conversations on this blog.
Read and enjoy.

Hi Coach Mack. I’m sorry about your friend, Jon. He looked like he was a very important friend to you.
I’m writing to get some help for my daughter, 8 yrs, cheerleader. She has turned this into her passion. I’ve always thought that she needed serious help with her tumbling to fix her habits. They slowly are working their way out, but they are still apparent. Do you help just anyone? Do we post videos or what? She is going to a private lesson today, but we try and work at home as well. She is good when someone else gives her ‘homework’. Thanks

coaching question: Not sure who to ask or where to turn, so I thought I would ask here. My daughter, age 8, is a level 4 gymnast at a competitive gym. She has always enjoyed gymnastics and loved going. Now she has a new coach, and she tells me the coach yells all the time, stretches the girls until they cry, and is “Mean” She told me the coach hates her and some of the other girls. Is this typical behavior/coaching style in gymnastics? I am fearing this coach is beginning to be detrimental to her self-esteem and wondering if this a the sport for her.
